Show/hide guides

Use the F7 shortcut to show/hide guides. With guides hidden, margin guides, ruler guides, column guides, the X in empty picture boxes, and the edges of unselected boxes that don't have a frame will disappear from view. Show guides to position objects; hide them to judge the overall compositional balance of a page.

Column and margin guides are modified in the Master Guides dialog box, which can be opened from the Page menu only when a master page is currently displayed (see page 227).

3.
Optional: To convert a single-sided document into a facing-pages document, check Facing Pages (to learn more about facing pages, see page 227).

Converting a facing-pages document into a single-sided document is more complicated, because it involves deleting master pages, which we cover in Chapter 14.

4.
Click OK . Any text box that fits exactly within the margin guides (such as the automatic text box) will resize automatically to fit within the new margins.

Figure 2. Parts of items that don't fit within the new page dimensions will be temporarily hidden from view.
