To create a PostScript file (Windows):

1.
Click Start button > Settings > Printers.

Right-click the name of your printer and choose Properties.

Click the Details tab.

Choose “FILE: (Creates a file on disk)” from the “Print to the following port” drop-down menu , then click OK.

Click in the QuarkXPress document window, and choose File > Print (Ctrl-P).

Ask your service provider what settings to choose in the Setup and Output panes.

From the PostScript output format drop-down menu, choose a PostScript option, then click Print. Note: A warning will appear if you haven't chosen “Print to the following port: FILE,” as described in step 4, above.

In the Print To File dialog box, type a name for the output file in the File name field and choose a folder in which to save it . If you want an extension to be included in the name, you must type it; it won't be added automatically.

Reminder: Be sure to go back into Printer Settings and change the “Print to the following port” setting back to LPT1: (Printer Port) in order to print normally.
