Chapter 10. Multiple Items > To align items:

To align items:

1.
Choose the Item or Content tool.

2.
Shift-click each of the items that are to be aligned .

Position the cursor outside the items to be aligned, then drag a marquee around them. The Space/Align command will move a locked item.

Choose Item > Space/Align (Cmd-,/Ctrl-,).

4.
Check Horizontal and/or Vertical .

Click the Space button.

In the Space field, enter a positive or negative number between 0" and 10" in any measurement system in an increment as small as .001 to stair-step the items to the left or the right if Horizontal is checked, or upward or downward if Vertical is checked. Think of the Space field as an offset field.

Enter 0 to align the items along their edges or centers.

7.
Choose from either or both Between pop-up menus.

8.
Click Apply to preview.

9.
Click OK .

TIP

If you align a picture and an accompanying caption, remember to account for any Text Inset value above zero, which positions the text slightly inward from the left edge of its box.
