To create your own automatic text box:

1.
Display the master page on which you want to create an automatic text box, and choose Fit in Window view (Cmd-0/Ctrl-0) so you can see the whole page.

Choose the Rectangle text box tool, then draw a text box .

Choose the Linking tool.

Click the link (broken chain) icon in the upper left corner of the page .

Click the text box , then click the Item or Content tool to deselect the Linking tool.

6.
For a facing-pages document, repeat all of the above steps on the other master facing page.

Note: If your automatic text box fits perfectly within the current margin guides and you later change the margin guides, the automatic text box will resize automatically to fit within the new guides.

To unlink

To unlink the automatic text box, choose the Unlinking tool, then click the link icon in the upper left corner of the master page (it will turn into a broken chain icon). If you're working on a facing pages document, be sure to do this on both the left and right master pages.
