Chapter 16. Layers > To find out which layer an item is on:

To find out which layer an item is on:

1.
Using the Item or Content tool, select on an item in your document.

2.
In the upper-right corner of the item you'll see a little colored square, which is called a visual indicator . If you don't see an indicator, don't run and get your reading glasses—just choose View > Show Visual Indicators. Note the color of the little square, and then find the same color on the Layers palette. That's the item's layer.

Note: You won't see a visual indicator on an item if it's on the default layer.

or

Without even looking at the item itself, look for the Item icon on the Layers palette next to the item's layer name . If multiple items are selected, you may see more than one Item icon.

or

Rest (don't click!) the pointer over the item's visual indicator. The Tool Tip will tell you which layer the item is on .

TIP

In the current version of QuarkXPress, there is no command for selecting all the items on a layer. You can, of course, select all the items on a layer manually in the document window.
