To enter Hyphenation Exceptions:

1.
Choose Utilities > Hyphenation Exceptions.

2.
Type a word that you don't want hyphenated . You can't type spaces or punctuation marks. And don't bother typing upper and lower case—all the characters will be added as lowercase anyway.

Figure 1. Using the Hyphenation Exceptions dialog box, you can specify how a word is to be hyphenated and also specify which words you don't want hyphenated.

Specify how a word will be hyphenated by typing it with a hyphen.

3.
Click Add (Return/Enter).

Optional: To edit an entry, click on it, edit it in the field, then click Replace.

5.
Repeat steps 2–3 or 4 for any other words. Be sure to add any variations of a word, such as its plural form.

6.
Click Save. Hyphenation exceptions are saved in the XPress Preferences file.

TIP

To prevent a compound word from hyphenating, add each part of the word separately as a Hyphenation Exception.
