Working with Cascading Style Sheets, Part I

As I mentioned in earlier sections of this chapter as well as Chapter 9, there are several HTML tags that are deprecated (in other words, no longer being developed) in version 4.0 and higher. Of particular note are those tags that involve general page layout and formatting—specifically, many of the tags I introduced in Chapter 9.

What does this deprecation mean? First, it does not mean you can no longer use the tags in question. Indeed, all of the tags will still be read and function properly in today’s browsers; however, it’s a bit like driving a car that is no longer in production. Sure, the car still runs great and you can still get parts for it, but it might be more difficult to get the parts or deal with problems because the car is no longer in active production.
