Chapter 12. Managing a Database > Setting Object Ownership

Setting Object Ownership

By default, the Admin account owns all objects in a database (and the database itself). You can change the ownership of any object and assign the object to a specific user or group. The owner of an object has administrative-like powers. That individual can assign permissions for the object and thereby control who else can gain access to that object. However, the Admin account will also have full privileges to every object, regardless of ownership.

Set Ownership

Start Access, type Admin as the user name, press Tab, and then enter the password for the Admin account.

Click the Tools menu, point to Security, and then click User And Group Permissions.

Click the Change Owner tab.

Click the Object Type list arrow, and then select the type of object you want to own.

Click the specific object in the Object list.

Click whether you want to assign the object to a group or a specific user.

Click the New Owner list arrow, and then select the user or group you want.

Click Change Owner.

Click OK.
