Part VI: Crystal Enterprise Supplemental... > Installing the Report Application Se...

Installing the Report Application Server

As previously mentioned, the Report Application Server is an add-on component to Crystal Enterprise. Before it can be used in a Crystal Enterprise environment, the software must be installed. It’s important to understand where each RAS component needs to be installed to ensure a successful deployment. The main components of the RAS install are the server itself, the SDK, and the associated applications. Because RAS operates in the same scalable, distributed manner as all other Crystal Enterprise servers, the install provides two options, custom install and expand install:

  • Custom install— Custom install makes it possible to select certain components that will be installed. This install option is used if the sample RAS applications need to be installed on a particular machine. This install option is also used when initially configuring a Crystal Enterprise system with RAS. If Crystal Enterprise has been installed in a distributed configuration using multiple physical servers, the RAS installation should start with the server on which the APS is installed before installing RAS components on other servers.

This will install the components necessary for the administrator to enable or disable the Report Application Server and set its properties via the Crystal Management Console. This installation option is also used when installing RAS client applications, such as the Report Wizard. These applications must be installed on the Web Component Server. As part of the install, the RAS SDK gets installed as well.

  • Expand install— The Expand install will install a new instance of a RAS Server and register it with the framework. This install option is used only if additional RAS Servers need to be added. It does not install any of the RAS applications.
