Understanding Organizational Reporting Requirements

Designing reports is one of the initial steps in designing a Crystal Enterprise system, and easily is the most obvious consideration. An equally important consideration, and one that is most often left until much later in the implementation process, is how and when the reports will be run. Answering some of the questions asked earlier in the chapter will pay off when reports are actually published to Crystal Enterprise. Additional related questions include the following:

  • Will reports be run on-demand or scheduled?

  • Will reports be batch scheduled by an administrator while end users can only view these scheduled instances?

  • Will end users be allowed to freely schedule their own reports?
