Chapter 14. Integrating Crystal Enterpri... > Delegating Administrative Functions

Delegating Administrative Functions

This section reviews the concept of delegated administration tasks within Coverall Manufacturing. Recall that Coverall requires certain end users to take on traditional system admin tasks, such as creating new groups and folders or adding users to Crystal Enterprise. Although this task could be easily accomplished from the Crystal Management Console, the risk of accessing other administrative functions within the CMC is too high.

Coverall has determined that within the super or power user community, there will be a second level of administrators, which Coverall refers to as sheriffs and deputies. The Crystal Enterprise administrator will be the sheriff. This sheriff has control over the entire Crystal Enterprise environment through the Crystal Management Console. The sheriff is in charge of ensuring that correct security exists at the folder and object level, as well as to schedule reports. The sheriff also is responsible for adding the regional administrators, known as the deputies.
