Chapter 24. Exporting and Importing Data... > Adapting Views of Tables or Queries ...

Adapting Views of Tables or Queries to Users' Needs

One of the primary advantages of saving tables or queries as XML is the capability to use a single XML data document to deliver multiple views of the data to groups of users who have different responsibilities and levels of authority. For example, members of human resources departments need access to employees'personal information, such as home addresses and phone numbers, but this information shouldn't be available to other employees. Using the same XML data document to supply multiple views of the table with separate .xsl/.htm file pairs minimizes the effort required to keep the XML data up-to-date.

Tip from

Maintain confidentiality by creating an ObjectName.asp file that applies the XSLT on the server and sends HTML to the client. You might not want users to have access to the full content of the .xml file that the .xsl file transforms to HTML. In this case, you export the .xml, .xsl, and .asp files to your Web server's virtual directory and execute the .asp file from the client browser.
