Scheduling Database Backup Operations with the SQL Server Agent

Access 2002's Backup feature for ADP creates a snapshot backup of the project's database to a DatabaseNameX.dat file in a local folder or a network share. The X in the file name is a backup serial number that increments by one each time you create a new backup in the same folder. The obvious problem with this process is that you or someone else must remember to choose Tools, Database Utilities, Backup SQL Database on a regular schedule. Murphy's Law of Backups is “Catastrophic disk failures always occur after a lapse in the database backup process.”

Enterprise Manager has the capability to schedule the SQL Agent service to perform recurring database backups at a specified frequency and time of day. Following are some of the most important considerations for scheduled database backups:
