Chapter 20. Using Access with Microsoft ... > Using the Access PivotTable Wizard

Using the Access PivotTable Wizard

The Access PivotTable Wizard simplifies adding data-bound PivotTables to Access forms. Data-bound PivotTables maintain up-to-date information as changes occur to the Jet tables that underlie the query on which you base the Excel PivotTable. The sections that follow describe how to create an Excel PivotTable in a bound object frame container within an Access form.

Creating the Query for the PivotTable

Queries designed for competent PivotTable users should offer a high degree of flexibility for slicing and dicing the data within a single Access form. For example, sales and marketing managers are likely to want to explore the total value of orders received each quarter by salesperson, customer, product, or country, or any combination of these selection criteria. Thus your query must supply more than the ordinary amount of data to the PivotTable.
