Chapter 11. Modifying Data with Action Q... > Creating Action Queries to Append Re...

Creating Action Queries to Append Records to a Table

A make-table query creates the new table structure from the structure of the records that underlie the query. Only the fields of the records that appear in the query are added to the new table's structure. If you design and save a Shipping Address table before extracting the duplicated data from the Orders table, you can use an append query to add the extracted data to the new table.

Tip

Another situation in which append queries are useful is when removing duplicate data from a table currently in use. In this case, you use make-table queries to create the related tables and then change them to append queries. You change the type of query by opening the Query menu and choosing Select, Crosstab, Make Table, Append, or Delete, or by clicking the Query Type button of the toolbar while in Design mode and choosing the type of query from the menu.
