Chapter 31. Migrating Access 9x Applicat... > Upgrading Access 2.0 Application .md...

Upgrading Access 2.0 Application .mdb Files to Access 2000

Many Access 2.0 applications have remained in use because of delays in upgrading all client PCs in an organization—especially laptops—to 32-bit Windows 9x. The following list describes the principal problems you encounter when upgrading 16-bit Access 2.0 application .MDB files to Access 2000 format:

  • DoMenuItem actions that refer to menu choices that have changed in Access 2000 produce an unexpected result. Access 2000 replaces DoMenuItem action with the RunCommand action in macros and Access VBA code.

  • SendKeys operations that execute Access 2000 menu choices and make selections in dialogs are likely to fail because of changes in the Access 2000 menu structure and the design of Access 2000 dialogs.

  • Variable names that conflict with the names of VBA 6.0 reserved words result in failure of Access 2000 to compile modules and to execute procedures containing the conflicting variables.

  • Access Basic statements that use the dot (.) operator to refer to a field of a Recordset object or a member of a collection fail. Use the VBA bang (!) operator, as in Orders!OrderID or Forms!Orders.
