Installing and Starting MSDE

MSDE and the other SQL Server 7.0 versions have a common installation application that's not integrated with the Office 2000 setup program. MSDE is an optional Access 2000 feature, so lack of integration with Office setup isn't a critical omission. Installation of MSDE requires about 90MB of free disk space to start, plus space for the databases you add. You should have at least 32MB and preferably 64MB or more of RAM to run MSDE and Office 2000 simultaneously under Windows 9x. A minimum of 64MB is required to prevent excessive disk paging operations under Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 Workstation.

To perform the manual installation of MSDE under Windows 9x or Windows NT, follow these steps:
