Chapter 8. Using Query by Example > Translating Graphical QBE to Structured Que...

Translating Graphical QBE to Structured Query Language

Structured Query Language, or SQL, is a standard set of English words used to describe a query. Access translates the QBE expressions that you type in the Query Design grid into a series of statements in its own dialect of SQL, called Jet SQL in this book. Access then carries out these instructions on any tables that contain fields matching those specified in your query.

Access's use of SQL is important when you are dealing with client/server databases that process SQL statements on the server. After processing the query, the server sends the data for the query result table to your Access client application for further processing.
