Chapter 24. Securing Multiuser Network A... > Sharing Your Access Database Files w...

Sharing Your Access Database Files with Other Users

While you're learning how to use Access and designing your first Access applications, you use Access in single-user mode and maintain exclusive use of the database files you create. If your application is designed for use in a networked environment, however, you set up a workgroup for the users who will share the database you created. The following sections describe how to create a directory for sharing files, modify Access applications for a multiuser environment, and set up a workgroup to provide security for shared .mdb files.

Tip

If you intend to share your Access applications, make a backup copy of System.mdw, preferably on disk. Use the backup copy to make a new System.mdw file in case your original System.mdw file becomes corrupted.
