Chapter 3. Navigating Within Acces > Setting Default Options

Setting Default Options

You can set about 100 options that establish the default settings for the system as a whole, and also those for the six functions defined by the Database window's tabs. You arenOt likely to change default options until you are more familiar with Access. However, because this book is a reference as well as a tutorial guide, and options are a basic element of Access's overall structure, this section explains how to change these settings.

You set defaults by choosing Tools, Options. The Options property sheet appears as shown in Figure 3.12. View, General, Keyboard, and Edit/Find Category options apply to the system as a whole. Datasheet, Tables/Queries, and Forms/Reports options all apply to table views in Datasheet view, forms, and queries. The other two option categories are specific to other basic functions.
