Chapter 25. Connecting to Client/Server ... > Installing the Microsoft ODBC Driver...

Installing the Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server

The members of Office 97, except Access 97, depend on 32-bit ODBC drivers for interoperability with Jet, dBASE, FoxPro, Paradox, and SQL Server databases, plus Excel and text files. Microsoft Query also uses ODBC to connect to the preceding data sources. Thus, Office 97 automatically installs the 32-bit ODBC 3.0 administrator application, called the ODBC Data Source Administrator, as a Control Panel tool when you choose the Typical or Custom Setup option. Figure 25.3 shows the 32-bit ODBC tool installed in Windows 95's Control Panel. In Windows NT 4.0's Control Panel, the 32-bit ODBC icon does not have the 32-bit caption prefix.
