Lesson 16. Adding Graphics to Forms

Lesson 16. Adding Graphics to Forms

In this lesson, you'll learn how to improve the look of a form by adding graphics to it.

It's not just an old cliche: A picture is worth a thousand words. Graphics do make a difference. Using clip art and other pictures and graphics on your Access form can make your form look more professional and more polished.

There are several kinds of graphics you can include in a form. You can import a piece of clip art that comes with Microsoft Office and you can import pictures from other programs (in a variety of formats). Or, using Windows Paint program, you can draw a picture yourself.

Clip Art

Pre-drawn "generic" images that you can put to use in your computerized databases, documents, spreadsheets, and so on. Clip art is not copyrighted, so you can use it without paying royalties or getting permission.

If you are used to other Microsoft Office programs like Word and PowerPoint, you may be disappointed to learn that Microsoft Access does not use the ClipArt Gallery 3.0 program that the others do.

You should also know that Microsoft Access, when purchased as a stand-alone product, does not come with any clip art. If you bought Access as part of the Microsoft Office package, you have a Clipart folder in your MSOffice folder, but it doesn't have anything to do with your Access installation per se. You can use that clip art in Access as you would any other picture, however.

A Back Door Into Clip Art

If you have other Office programs installed, you also have the Clip Gallery 3.0 program, which catalogs and controls clip art. You can access it by following the steps in this section and selecting Microsoft Clip Gallery as the Object Type. The Clip Gallery opens and you can select clip art from it. However, clip art inserted in this way is not resizable, so it is of limited usefulness.
