Chapter 11. Extending Office Data Analysis Features with Code

Chapter 11. Extending Office Data Analysis Features with Code

Many of the Microsoft Office data analysis features that you’ve read about and experimented with so far in this book can be automated through the use of programmatic code. Once you understand how to work with the Visual Basic Editor, the primary development environment used to write code for Office applications, you’ll be better prepared to automate Office data analysis features.

To help lay a foundation for programming Office applications, this chapter begins with a discussion of Office code macros and procedures, which are collections of code that perform certain tasks, and then provides and explains code examples that relate to specific Office data analysis tasks and features. If you’re familiar with at least one high-level programming language (Microsoft Visual Basic, for example), you will see some specific examples and gain some background about Office development. If you’re not familiar with programming, while this chapter can’t be a thorough introduction, you’ll still gain an understanding of some fundamental concepts and see the direction that you need to go.
