Locking Records

This section describes the procedure used by Access projects and Microsoft SQL Server/MSDE for locking records in multiuser environments. A record is locked so that it cannot be edited by more than one user at the same time.

In Access mdb environments, two procedures are provided for locking records: optimistic and pessimistic locking. In Access projects and SQL Server/MSDE, you can only use optimistic locking. During pessimistic locking, the data is locked at the point at which you start processing.
