SQL Server/MSDE Databases

In Chapter 2, “Access Projects,” we covered the basic differences between Access mdb and SQL Server/MSDE databases. We now more closely examine the SQL Server/MSDE structure and components.

The actual database server runs in the background as a process on the computer where SQL Server or MSDE is installed. Under Microsoft Windows NT or Microsoft Windows 2000, the SQL Server process is a service, and under Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Me it is a regular program that runs in the background.
