Standalone, Network, and Client Server

In this section we discuss how Access databases differ from Access projects with access to SQL Server and MSDE and introduce some of the basic concepts involved.

Access as a Desktop Database

Access was designed as a desktop database, or a database in which the data and program are located on the same computer with only one user accessing the data. The Access database kernel, Jet Engine, is optimized for this type of access.
