Preparing the Parties Database for Reporting

In this hour, you'll see how to produce reports that summarize data in one or more tables. The simplest summarization just adds up values from each record in the table. However, in this hour a somewhat more complex summary is demonstrated. (You can use the same techniques with fewer details to produce a simpler summary.)

To allow you to produce subsummaries (summaries of grouped records within the table), you add a new field to the Parties table. Each party will now have a client for whom the party is to be arranged. One client may have several parties scheduled, and the report to be produced in this hour will summarize the budgets for all parties scheduled by each client as well as for all parties for all clients. Figure 17.1 shows one version of the completed report.
