Working with Contexts

Before FileMaker 7, a layout displayed data from a single database file. You could add related data to the layout, but the layout and the database file were tied together.

With FileMaker 7, a database file can contain many tables. Each layout needs to be linked not to the database file but to a specific table within it. That table is called the context for the layout. Just as before, you can add related data to the layout, but its context—its location in the relationship graph—must be specified.
