Setting Up a Data Source on Windows

Your data source identifies where you get the data from. You set it up with ODBC software outside FileMaker. In some cases, you may not need to set it up at all; in an organization's database environment, the data sources may have been prepared for you by the database management team. Data sources are used by FileMaker, but there is nothing specific to FileMaker about them. Thus, a data source that identifies data in a personnel database can be used for ODBC data by FileMaker, Oracle, or any other ODBC application.
