Hour 12. Working with ODBC and JDBC > The FileMaker ODBC Example

The FileMaker ODBC Example

FileMaker comes with an ODBC example that serves as the jumping-off point for this hour. The sample consists of a database and two text files. The text files are comma-delimited files; you could import them into the database using the techniques you learned in Hour 11. However, the FileMaker example shows you how to import that data using ODBC.

One advantage of using ODBC is that after the data source is set up, you do not have to worry about the external database (or flat file, in this case). Converting an import command in FileMaker from a comma-delimited file to one that accesses a database is simply a matter of changing the data source.
