About Security

Unless you are using a database solely for your own purposes and only on a computer to which you alone have access, you need to consider security concerns for your databases and solutions. Security is more than just a matter of preventing unauthorized access to your data. It includes making sure that your databases are not corrupted either maliciously or inadvertently. It also includes ensuring that your databases and database solutions work and are available at appropriate times (and this vision of security therefore includes availability of network connections as well as of power).

Security can entail making sure that your database solutions, including layouts and scripts, are not appropriated by others without permission. (This is particularly important if you are a developer or consultant.) And, on the other side of the coin, security for a client may mean making sure that the consultant or developer provides sufficient documentation and resources so that a mission-critical FileMaker solution can be maintained in the future.
