About Printing

One pillar of the graphical user interface is WYSIWYG—What You See Is What You Get. The goal is for the display onscreen to be identical to what is printed on a page. Unfortunately, that long-ago goal has never been totally met, and, in fact, it causes some problems. These problems include the fact that the dimensions and shape of a computer screen are usually different from those of paper, color on paper (a reflective medium) appears differently than it does onscreen (a transmissive medium), and the resolution of computer screens is different from that of printers.

For all these reasons and more, FileMaker provides two mechanisms for addressing the need for printed data:
