Hour 15. More About Layouts > Using Portals for Relationships

Using Portals for Relationships

Portals are layout objects designed to display fields from more than one related record. They frequently contain scroll bars so that you can scroll through the data. Figure 15.15 shows a portal displaying the many telephone numbers associated for a single Guest ID using the relationship created in Hour 14. The portal happens to display two related records, but it could contain any number. A portal can allow the creation of related records. If so, one blank record is always displayed below the data records. You can see a data entry field in the blank third record in Figure 15.15. (Unlike most other figures in this hour, this one displays Browse mode.) You'll see how to create and manage portals in this section.
