Hour 15. More About Layouts > Using Default FileMaker Layouts

Using Default FileMaker Layouts

If you created the tables in the Parties database as described in Hour 14 (or if you've downloaded the database from the Web using the publisher's Web site, www.samspublishing.com, or the author's Web site, www.philmontmill.com), you already have a default layout for each table. FileMaker creates layouts using the current settings in the status area in Layout mode. (If you want to change those settings, you can customize each field as described in Hour 4, “Introducing Layouts.” Alternatively, set font sizes and so forth as you want them before creating fields in the Define Database dialog. FileMaker picks up the current settings.)

In Figure 15.1, you see the default layouts created. Note that the Layout pop-up menu in the status area shows which layout is in use; by default, each layout is given the name of its underlying table.
