File Formats

FileMaker reads and writes a number of common file formats used to share data. The file formats are listed in this section along with brief descriptions. Because these formats are used to transfer data between possibly incompatible applications and systems, and also because many of them date to the earliest days of personal computers, many of them are based only on text. If you have italicized some of your data, such formatting will generally be lost in data transfer using these formats. Furthermore, if your data contains movies, images, or other nontext data, you may not be able to transfer those data elements with these formats.
