About Data Sharing

The ability to share data among applications, across networks, and with various people is critical to individuals as well as organizations large and small. Databases serve as repositories of data, but they also normally come with features and software that let them import and export data on a grand scale. FileMaker is no exception.

You can share FileMaker databases over networks using both FileMaker software and standard Web browsers. Those topics are the subject of Part IV, “Sharing FileMaker Solutions,” of this book. You can also use the industry standard Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) API, which is the topic of Hour 12, “Working with ODBC and JDBC.” Also, on the Macintosh, you can import images directly from a digital camera. (That is described in the user documentation.)
