Summary

In this hour, you saw how to use scripts with interface elements such as buttons to control records in portals. Because the FileMaker menu interface is ambiguous in these matters, scripts and customized buttons can make your users' lives much easier. You also saw how to use script parameters.

Now it's time to return to layouts and examine how they can help you produce summaries of data. Because summaries are only displayed properly when the table is sorted and because they need to be viewed in Preview mode, a script is often a companion to the layout. (In fact, FileMaker automatically creates a script to produce each layout report if you want.)
