How Do I Install Visual SourceSafe?

You can use Visual SourceSafe only with the Microsoft Office 97 Developer Edition of Access, the Microsoft Office 2000 Developer, and the Microsoft Office XP Developer. Microsoft includes it with the Microsoft Office XP Developer as one of the developer applications. This source control tool is also included as part of the Enterprise edition of Visual Basic, or you can buy it as a standalone product. In fact, Visual SourceSafe isn't the only source-code control product that you can use with Office XP Developer. Instead, Office XP Developer supplies a software source-code control component that can integrate various source-code control products into Access. To integrate Visual SourceSafe or another version-control product into Access, you need to install both the Office XP Developer Tools and the client part of your version-control product.

To install Visual SourceSafe, use the SourceSafe CD included with the Microsoft Office XP Developer CD set. Follow the onscreen instructions to install VSS, selecting one of these three installation options:
