Chapter 2. Developing Multiuser Applicat... > Using Replication to Improve Perform...

Using Replication to Improve Performance

You can use replication, covered in Chapter 17, to improve performance in a multiuser application. Using replication, you can place multiple copies of the database containing the tables on the network, each on a different file server. Different users can be set up to access data from the different file servers, thereby better distributing network traffic. Using the Replication Manager, which ships with the Microsoft Office Developer Edition (MOD), you can synchronize the databases at regular intervals. Although this isn't a viable solution when the data users are viewing needs to be fully current, this type of solution might be adequate in many situations. It's often the only solution when limited resources don't allow migrating an application's data to a client/server database.

NOTE

The Replication Manager comes only with Microsoft Office XP Developer.
