Chapter 10. ADO and SQL Server > Why This Chapter Is Important

Why This Chapter Is Important

You use ActiveX data objects (ADO) to create, modify, and remove Jet Engine, SQL Server, or other OLE DB objects via code. ADO gives you the flexibility to move beyond the user interface to manipulate data stored in the Jet Engine and other formats. Some of the many tasks that you can perform with ADO include:

  • Analyzing the structure of an existing database

  • Adding or modifying tables and queries

  • Creating new databases

  • Changing the underlying definitions for queries by modifying the SQL on which the query is based

  • Traversing sets of records

  • Administrating security

  • Modifying table data
