What Good Are Related Tables?

When you created your database in the beginning of this book, I advised you to create relationships between tables. (You created the relationships in Lesson 10.) You might have wondered why you were doing this—what good it would do you. In this lesson, I'll show you some of the ways related tables help you manage your data.

A relationship links two tables by connecting matching fields. This makes it possible to break out repetitive or peripheral information into its own table, while still using that information in the main table.
