Adding Labels

The next thing that most people want to do is add text to the form, in the form of label controls to display titles, subtitles, explanatory text, and so on. Add titles and other general information to a header or footer; add information specific to particular controls to the Detail area. Follow these steps:

  1. If the Toolbox isn't displayed, choose Toolbox from the View menu or click the Toolbox button on the toolbar.

  2. Click the Label tool in the toolbox (the one with the italicized letters Aa on it). The mouse pointer changes to a capital A with a plus sign next to it (see Figure 15.5).

Figure 15.5. Select the Label tool in the toolbox.

  3. Click anywhere on the form where you want to create the new text. A tiny box appears. (The box expands to hold the text as you type.)

  4. Type the text.

    Caution

You Must Type the Text Now! If you don't type anything before you go on to step 5, the box will disappear as soon as you click away from it.

  5. Click anywhere outside the control's area to finish, or press Enter.

    Tip

Label Dragging Don't worry about positioning the label as you create it; you can move a label control in the same way that you move other controls. Just click it, position the mouse pointer so the hand appears, and then drag it to where you want it to go.
