Lesson 29. Importing and Exporting Data > Exporting Data to Other Programs

Exporting Data to Other Programs

You can't export an entire Access database to another program. That's because an Access database isn't a single file; an .mdb file includes various database objects (such as Tables, Forms, Queries, Reports, and Macros) that don't translate easily into another program. Besides, if you want to export data, what you really want to export is a table. Tables in Access contain all your data. Follow these steps to export a table:

  1. Open the database that contains the table.

  2. Click the Tables tab and highlight the database you want to export.

  3. Choose File, Export. The Export Table dialog box appears.

  4. If desired, choose a different drive or folder.

  5. Open the Save As Type drop-down list and select the file type you want (see Figure 29.5).

  6. Type a name in the File Name text box to create a new file to save it in.

  7. Click the Save button. Access saves the table in the specified format.

Figure 29.5. Export your table by saving it in a different format.
