Getting Information about the Operating Environment

By using Windows API calls, you can get volumes of information about the system environment—including the type of hardware on which the application is running, the amount of memory that exists or is available, and the operating system version under which the application is running. This is just a sampling of the system environment information that you can get via the Windows API.

It is handy and professional to include system information in your application's Help About box. It also is important to include this system information in your error handling and logging because such information can help you diagnose problems. This is discussed in Chapter 17, “Handling Those Dreaded Runtime Errors.”
