Chapter 15. Web Publishing > Restricting Database Access

Restricting Database Access

Password protection for a FileMaker Web database is set within the application. In addition, you can limit access to your published databases to specific IP addresses. This is a handy feature if you are publishing the databases only for the use of people in your company.

To restrict access by IP address:

1.
Choose Edit > Preferences > Application.

2.
In the Application Preferences dialog box, click the Plug-Ins tab.

3.
In the list of Plug-Ins, click Web Companion, then click the Configure button.

4.
In the Web Companion Configuration dialog box's Security section, click the Restrict access to IP address(es) check box (Figure 15.16).

5.
In the box below the check box, type the IP addresses to which you want to grant access. If you want to use more than one IP address, separate the addresses with commas. If you want to allow access to a range of IP addresses, use an asterisk as a wild card (Figure 15.17). Click OK, then OK again to finish.
