Chapter 15. Web Publishing > Configuring Databases for Web Access

Configuring Databases for Web Access

The FileMaker Web Companion plug-in is your key to making databases available on the Web. This plug-in acts as a CGI gateway, translating requests between a Web browser and FileMaker Pro into the appropriate code for each, allowing a user to seamlessly interact with your database. Once you've enabled Web Companion, you'll also need to open your files with a password that allows records to be exported.

To enable Web Companion:

1.
In FileMaker Pro, choose Edit > Preferences > Application.

2.
When the Application Preferences dialog box appears, click the Plug-Ins tab.

3.
Click the Web Companion check box (Figure 15.1).

Figure 15.1. The Web Companion plug-in makes FileMaker files available over the Web.

If the Web Companion plug-in does not appear in the list, you can install it from your original FileMaker installation CD.

4.
Click OK.
