Chapter 15. Web Publishing > Testing Your Web Database

Testing Your Web Database

Before you publish your databases, test them first with your own browser to make sure they work the way you expect. In fact, you should try to test them with the latest versions of both Internet Explorer and Netscape, and at least one older version. By checking with several browsers, you can make sure that no major problems will appear when a wide range of visitors access your pages.

To test published databases:

1.
Open the databases configured for Web sharing in FileMaker.

2.
On the same computer, start your Web browser.

3.
Open a blank browser page.

4.
Type http://localhost/ in the address line (Figure 15.29).

Figure 15.29. Typing Localhost instead of an IP address will access the hosted databases on the same computer you're working on.

The default start page (or the custom one, if designated) will appear in your browser.

5.
Use your browser to view the layouts.

6.
Switch back to FileMaker to make any changes necessary (like widening fields).

7.
Switch back to the browser and click the Refresh/Reload button to see the changes.
