Chapter 17. Using FileMaker 5.5's New Features > Restricting Access Privileges

Restricting Access Privileges

In previous versions of FileMaker, you could globally limit a user's ability to edit or delete records—a necessary action in a multi-user environment. But sometimes you want a user to have full control of some records but read-only or even no access to others. Although customizing access was possible before, it was extremely difficult and required such experience and finesse that it was hardly ever done. In FileMaker 5.5, the difficult has been made extremely simple. You can exercise very specific and targeted control over each individual user's actions.

In this example, we will set privileges so that users with a particular password can see any record in the database, but edit or delete only records that they created.
