Chapter 3. Layout Enhancements > Reusing Graphics

Reusing Graphics

If you need to use the same graphic on multiple layouts, the most convenient approach is to create a global field as a container. You can then use the graphic on any layout in the database.

To create a global container field:

1.
Choose File > Define Fields (Ctrl+Shift+D/Command-Shift-D).

2.
When the Define Fields dialog box appears (Figure 3.16), name the field and choose the Global radio button from the Type section. Click Create.

3.
When the Options dialog box appears, choose Container from the Data type drop-down menu (Figure 3.17). Click OK, then click Done.

4.
Switch to Layout Mode (Ctrl+L/ Command-L), then switch to the layout where the container field will be displayed.

5.
From the layout tools, choose Field and drag the field to its new position.

6.
From the Specify Field dialog box that appears, choose the name of the global container field you just created and click OK. Resize the field box to fit the graphic you'll be placing there.

7.
Change to Browse mode (Ctrl+B/Command-B). Select the container field on your layout.

8.
Choose Insert > Picture and navigate to the graphics file you want to insert. Once you find it, click Open.
