Linking to the Main Menu

If you create a Main Menu, you quickly discover its fatal weakness. You can almost instantaneously jump from the Main Menu to someplace else, but getting back is another story. To avoid confusion, you should also provide easy access back from the linking layouts, especially those in different databases than where the Main Menu itself is placed.

To link to Main Menu from layouts in different files:

1.
Go to an external file that you want to link to from the Main Menu. Choose Scripts > ScriptMaker.

2.
In the Define Scripts dialog box, type a name for the script. We use Go to Main Menu. Click Create.

3.
When the Script Definition dialog box appears, delete the default script in the assembly window by clicking Clear All.

4.
From the step list on the left, double-click Perform Script.

5.
In the Specify drop-down list, choose External Script (Figure 9.28).

6.
In the Specify External Script dialog box, click the Change File button (Figure 9.29).

7.
When the Open File dialog box appears, navigate to the file with the Main Menu layout and double-click to select it.

8.
In the Specify External Script dialog box, choose the Go to Main Menu script from the drop-down list of scripts in the external file (Figure 9.30). Click OK, OK again and then Done.

9.
Follow the steps in “To create a button for a script” on page 184 to add a button to the layout in the external file. In the Specify Button dialog box, select Perform Script from the list on the left and choose the Go to Main Menu script (Figure 9.31).
